It is late at night and
Jane can barely keep her eyes open.
She signed up for a
writing challenge when her world still made sense more than a month ago. With one phone call, her world came crashing
down around her. Even though more than
three weeks had passed since that fateful morning, Jane still felt more than a
bit foggy on where this crazy thing called life was leading her.
One thing that Jane did
know was that once she started writing and dedicating her days to coming up with
novel twists to her plot that this challenge could help her get through this
difficult time but even she didn’t know that this competition would become her
reason for being.
Before all of this, Jane
spent her time sitting at the computer building websites or surfing the
internet and occasionally playing Spider Solitaire. Now, her favorite word processing program was
calling her name and she listened.
Once she started
listening, Jane knew that this story in her head was telling her to get away
from the small town that she grew up in and ran back to after the horribleness
of that life-changing talk. Jane craved the soothing sounds of the waves crashing down on the sands of South Padre Island.
The biggest obstacle standing in her way was that she had
responsibilities – a daughter, bills, and the seemingly never-ending search for
a job – but she could purchase a relaxing c.d. that simulated the sounds of the
beach that she longed to lose herself in, at least for a short time.
